On 15 February SRS Advogados will host a conference on "The Rights of Artists in the Digital World", organized by GDA in collaboration with SRS. The event will be attended by national and European specialists and will allow debate and examination of fundamental questions for the greater safeguard of the rights of artists.
In May last year the European Commission launched the Digital Single Market strategy, that encompasses a revision of the acquis regime of Copyright Law and Related Rights in the European Union. In this context, the Association of European Performers Organizations (AEPO-ARTIS), the International Federation of Actors (EuroFIA), the International Federation of Musicians (FIM) and the International Artists Organization (IAO), which represent over half a million musicians and actors in the European Union, developed the Fair Internet for Performers campaign, for the creation and maintenance of a sustainable cultural sector.
The opening session of the conference will be moderated by Pedro Rebelo de Sousa, Senior Partner at SRS Advogados. Xavier Blanc, General Secretary of AEPO-ARTIS, will present the European campaign, which aims to achieve equitable remuneration for artists. Jose Luis Sevillano, Director General at AIE-Artistas, Intépretes ou Execuantes de Espanha, will introduce the topic "The management of the right to make available to the public: the Spanish case".
"The current challenges of the collective management entities of copyright and related rights in the digital world" will be the topic presented by José Alberto Vieira, professor at the University of Lisbon's School of Law and acting Vice President of the APDI. Among other matters, the changes to art.º 178º, nº 1) d) and nº 4 of the Copyright Code and Related Rights Code and its digital implications will be discussed.
Octávio Castelo Paulo, SRS Advogados partner who heads the TMT practice at SRS Advogados, will be one of the moderators of the event that will take place in the auditorium at SRS Advogados, from 09:30 to 17:00.
