SRS Legal provided legal advice on the creation of RECAPS, the first organisation in Portugal to establish an integrated system for the collection, transport, treatment and recycling of coffee capsules.
The company was set up with the collaboration of the Coffee Industrial and Commercial Association (AICC) and brings together, at this early stage, fourteen of the biggest brands in the Portuguese sector (Bellissimo, Delta Q and Ginga, from Delta Cafés; Torrié, from José Maria Vieira; Chave D'Ouro, Nicola and Segafredo, by Massimo Zanetti; Buondi, Nescafé Dolce Gusto, Nespresso, Sical and Starbucks, by Nestlé Portugal; Bogani, by NewCoffee; UCC, by UCC Coffee), who have joined forces in favour of a greater social value: the promotion of environmental sustainability.
SRS Legal provided specialised legal advice to both AICC and the founding companies of RECAPS, leading all the corporate and compliance aspects necessary for setting up the company. The project involved close collaboration between SRS Legal's Corporate practice - led by Nuno Miguel Prata (Partner) and Andreia Rodrigues Lopes (Associate) - and Competition practice - led by Gonçalo Anastácio (Partner) and Manuel Martinho Lopes Rocha (Associate).
In line with what is already happening in several European countries, the RECAPS initiative represents an innovative milestone in the Portuguese business and environmental panorama, by ensuring that used coffee capsules are correctly disposed of and recycled. This effort by the main companies in the sector is the result of a clear commitment to the circular economy and to reducing the ecological footprint.
The creation of RECAPS reflects SRS Legal's commitment to supporting innovative and sustainable projects that promote collaboration between sectors and contribute to a greener and more responsible future.
