SRS Advogados has appointed João Santos Carvalho as Partner in the Banking & Finance team. The appointment João takes SRS Advogados to 33 Partners, and reflects a further step in the firm's growth policy.
João began his career in 2005 at SRS Advogados (Simmons & Simmons Rebelo de Sousa), and between 2006 and 2007 was seconded to the capital markets and securitizations team at Banif-Banco de Investimento. He has been Managing Associate in the Banking & Finance team since 2017.

With over 15 years of experience in banking and finance, capital markets and financial regulation, João has advised numerous banks and borrowers on various matters of banking and finance law, including a wide range of bank financing, domestic and cross-border transactions, asset finance, project finance, real estate finance, ship finance, direct lending, NPL, and bank regulation issues.
João has also advised investment banks, investment fund management companies, financial intermediaries and issuers on capital markets transactions and the provision of financial services, including advising on numerous debt issues, securitisations and regulatory matters.
More recently, he has been advising incumbents, fintechs and crypto asset service providers on regulatory issues related to digital banking, payment services, lending platforms and crypto assets.
João has a Master's degree in Law from the Nova University of Lisbon, a degree in Law from the same university and a postgraduate degree in Securities Law from the University of Lisbon Law School. He is, among other publications, the author of the book "The (Hypothetical) Borrower's Remuneration.
