José Luís Moreira da Silva represented SRS Legal at the 1st Congress of the Portuguese-speaking Lawyers Federation (FALP) in São Paulo, Brazil. The event, which took place on 21 and 22 November, had the theme "Challenges for Portuguese-speaking legal practice".
SRS Legal's partner participated in a panel debate on 21 November, dedicated to the topic "Legislative and Jurisprudential Trends in Arbitration and Mediation". This panel also included Mariana França Gouveia (PLMJ Partner - Portugal), Frederico Rato (Partner of Rato, Ling, Lei & Cortés - Macau), Manuel Pina (Partner of SAMP, Serviços de Advocacia, Manuel de Pina e Associados, Sociedade de Advogados, R.L. - Cape Verde) and Gabriel Seijo Leal de Figueiredo (Partner of Cescon Barrieu and President of the Commission
Commission of Arbitration and Mediation of the FALP - Brazil).
The Congress included several working sessions in different areas of law, organized by the Knowledge Centres of the FALP (Committees and Working Groups), by the Rule of Law Observatory of the FALP and also by the Federation of Lawyers Institutes. In order to foster professional relations between Portuguese-speaking lawyers from different jurisdictions, the event also included two lunches where participants, speakers and guests met.
The opening session was chaired by Renato de Mello Jorge Silveira (President of the National Federation of Brazilian Bar Associations), Marcelo Nobre (President of the Commission for Portuguese-Speaking Law of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association), Hernani Oliveira Soares (President of the Cape Verde Bar Association) and Pedro Pais de Almeida, (President of the FALP). At the end of the congress the Development Law Magazine of the Federation of Portuguese-speaking Lawyers ("RDDFALP") was launched, an electronic magazine of the FALP that will circulate free of charge in all Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions. There was also a tribute to Professor Arnoldo Wald.
